Story Background

The region of Xian has been inhabited as far back as 6000 years.
The first emperor of the unified China, Qin Shihuang founded
the capital of Xianyang, which is a bit west of Xian. Following
the Qin was the Han dynasty that moved the capital further east,
to the plain where Xian now is.
There are approximately 7000 terracotta warriors in three pits
in the tomb of the First Emperor. In those times, when a warlord
or master died, his soldier, servants, slaves, and wives would
accompany him in the after life. though emperor Qin was powerful
in his rule, having just united China, he was careful not to
offend his military by asking them to die with him. Obsessed
with immortality he called for thousands of artisans to create
statues of warriors so that he would have an army to lead in
his afterlife.
